Ubuntu vs Mac OS Scorecard
July 11th, 2008
What is this page?
This is an ever-evolving page where I will be scoring Ubuntu 8.10 vs Mac OS X Leopard. As I experiment with the plausibility of replacing my standard os, the Mac OS, with Linux I am judging how well Ubuntu Linux can replace the Mac OS at daily tasks.
What are these graphs?
These graphs are score-cards. Ubuntu appears in blue. Mac OS appears in green. In each distinct row the more one color dominates the other the more I favor that operating system for that task.

well, it’s lots easier, comfortable, and trustable to update Ubuntu than MacOS-X

These are the least objective results I’ve ever seen posted on a “review” style of site. There isn’t even a discussion on how or why you came about the figures.

Jason,
That’s because this isn’t a review site, it’s more of a journal. The results are not objective, they are entirely subjective.

Fascinating stuff, I’m a long time Linux user though not been using Ubuntu but more Fedora, I recently bought a MacBook Pro and one of my reasons was for exploring the creative side of computing, mainly to support my photography. I was not able to get Fedora running on it, but managed to get Ubuntu without too many issues. Its interesting to see what you’re doing and your comparisons cause mine are the other way round! I’m exploring OS X every now and then with Ubuntu was my main OS.
Will keep a watch on this space.
Cheers…Kishore

I am surprised you find Ubuntu easier to backup than the Mac — nothing’s simpler than plugging in a hard drive and clicking one button to have the Mac’s built-in backups start firing away at it.
